How Can I Get My Hands On A Knockerfrock?
Knockerfrocks have become my daily uniform. I read somewhere once that the most successful people wear the same thing every day and it's true that if you discover your own personal style you shave several minutes off your morning routine. I wear my knockerfrocks to work and I wear them out AND I wear them to lounge around in at home. They truly are a versatile item even if you are no longer/not breastfeeding. I get so much of a soul-rush from wearing my own colours and patterns! And I love how they are easy to wear, washable, reversible and quick drying (as you know I have 'a relationship' with laundry and the less stress involved in that department the better!).
What is a knockerfrock?
A knockerfrock is a batwing dress that allows for side feeding access. I designed it originally when I was breastfeeding and needed something discrete to wear while nursing that could be worn in a variety of situations. The larger sleeve openings mean that you can pull the sleeve to the side in order to feed your baby and the sleeve drapes gently over your boob to cover you without the need to have a giant blanket or 'nursing cover'.
Can you only wear them if you are breastfeeding?
Nope - you can wear them all the time. The larger sleeve opening is also a breezy option in Summer and you don't have to use it for nursing. It just becomes a regular Batwing dress.
Why don't you make them anymore?
When I was designing from home my dress making became too much of a challenge with the kids at home with me too. And these days I work full time again as I have returned to my other passion - teaching. My passion is for the textile design part of the process so I am happy to release the pattern digitally so that I can focus on the fun print-colour-paint side of my creative life.
How do I get one?
You can purchase a pattern from my ETSY store. You simply print it out (it's scaled to print across 6 A4 pieces of paper) and then you cellotape it together. This will become your very own knockerfrock pattern. If you want to make it the genuine article you can shop my fabric and order a yard of performance pique to make your dress in.
What if I can't sew?
If you can't sew then you can contact me and I can see if I can 'maybe' fit you in to make one for you. This is entirely dependant on my current workload but it's always worth a try! I can also help you with a custom consultation via email if you want a specific pattern or colour combo. You might also pull the arm of a sewing friend and maybe you could split the cost of the pattern and sew one up for both of you! Also - the pattern is really easy and suitable for beginner sewists so maybe you could just give it a whirl?!
Where can I see all of your patterns?
You can shop a range of places for my textile designs. I have several designs loaded as dollhouse wallpaper on my etsy store - and I know that's a quirky way to look at textiles but it is a nice overview of my most current work. You can also shop via my Instagram (#knockerfrock) or check out my fabrics on my spoonflower store. I am in the process of making sure that all of my designs can be viewed everywhere/anywhere, but as you might guess this takes a bit of time and I've also got Mum life and working life to balance in the mix.
Are you excited?! Yes! Me too.
Happy to help. X
